Ten Passengers Reported Kidnapped in Benue State
Authorities report that at least ten passengers, including a female grain trader, were kidnapped along the Takum–Tor Donga–Katsina-Ala highway in Benue State on Monday, February 9, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m.
The victims were en route from Takum in Taraba State to the Tor-Donga Market when an armed group intercepted their vehicle at Tse-De settlement within the Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. Family members of one of the abducted individuals confirmed the details of the incident.
One victim has been identified as a businesswoman specializing in grain sales, who was headed to the market for trading activities.
As of Sunday, February 16, 2026—one week after the incident—relatives report that they have had no communication from the kidnappers, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of those taken. Family members are urging security agencies to expedite efforts to secure the release of their loved ones.
When contacted for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command acknowledged the inquiry but had not provided further information as of the time of this report.
Residents along the Takum–Tor Donga–Katsina-Ala route have expressed growing alarm over rising insecurity in the area, calling on authorities to enhance patrols and surveillance to address ongoing criminal activities.
