The Taraba State Police Command has arrested an inspector, Insp. Joshua Charles, and his girlfriend, Ruth Alphancis, after an assault rifle went missing along the Wukari–Jootar Federal Highway. The incident occurred on December 25, 2025, when Charles, 45, left his post, leaving three officers behind. Later that evening, Alphancis returned from Jootar village and reported seeing an unidentified person leaving their home. When Charles returned, allegedly intoxicated, he discovered that his Type 06 assault rifle, loaded with 25 rounds of live ammunition, was missing. The rifle’s breach number has not been confirmed. Following the report, police operatives investigated the scene and are working to recover the missing firearm while also searching for those responsible. Both Charles and Alphancis are currently in custody to assist in the investigation. Local residents and hunters are collaborating with police efforts in the recovery process.
