2027: ADC has many people to challenge Tinubu - Dalung

Dalung Asserts ADC’s Readiness to Challenge Tinubu in 2027 Election
Former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung has expressed confidence that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) possesses both the political strength and influential candidates necessary to mount a significant challenge against President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Dalung made these remarks during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a program aired on Channels Television, on Sunday. He emphasized that the ADC is equipped with capable contenders who can effectively confront the ruling party at the polls.
“We have many individuals ready to challenge Tinubu,” Dalung stated. “I can decide to contest the election, and I will challenge him.”
He attributed his faith in the ADC to the quality of politicians who have joined the party, which has emerged as a platform for a broader opposition coalition. Among those aligned with the ADC are notable figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, John Odigie-Oyegun, the ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, and former Senate President David Mark.
Dalung acknowledged concerns regarding potential internal conflicts arising from the presence of numerous influential politicians within the party post-primary. However, he asserted that the ADC has reached a consensus to prevent such divisions.
“We are going to conduct a transparent primary,” Dalung said, adding that the party has resolved to support the winner of the primary collectively in the effort to challenge Tinubu. “Challenging Tinubu is not an individual issue; it’s an issue for the party. This resolution has been approved.”
He stressed the ADC’s commitment to unity over individual personalities, emphasizing that the central aim is to displace the ruling party in the next general election.
President Tinubu, who previously served as governor of Lagos State, secured victory in the 2023 presidential election against Abubakar, Obi, and other candidates.
