2027: Amaechi officially joins ADC

Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi Joins African Democratic Congress Amid Tensions

Ubima, Rivers State – Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Friday morning. He completed his registration at Ward 8 in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Amaechi’s registration coincided with the destruction of the ADC’s local office, which was set ablaze by unidentified individuals earlier that morning. Residents reported witnessing the fire, which caused significant damage and sparked concern within the community. As of the registration period, no arrests had been reported.

Speaking to a gathering of supporters, Amaechi urged them to maintain peace amidst the upheaval. “Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody,” he cautioned, emphasizing the importance of composure. He also expressed confidence that the community’s political activities would persist despite the incident.

Amaechi praised the response of local security forces, commending the state commissioner of police and the director of the Department of State Services for their professionalism during the disturbance. “I thank the commissioner of police and the director of DSS; they showed a lot of professionalism,” he said, adding that he had not anticipated such a positive response.

In light of the arson, he called for a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible, asserting that such intimidation tactics would not hinder the party’s efforts in the region.

Amaechi’s defection to the ADC marks a pivotal moment for the party as it seeks to enhance its presence in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
