2027: ‘If Jonathan’s govt can be removed, APC can be cut into piece’  —  Galadima

Galadima Warns of Voter Backlash in 2027 Amid Economic Struggles

Buba Galadima, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, has issued a stark warning that the Nigerian electorate may seek to express their dissatisfaction with the current administration at the polls in 2027 if challenges related to economic hardship and insecurity persist.

Speaking on Politics Today on Thursday, Galadima criticized the policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and rejected claims of improving living conditions.

He emphasized the importance of addressing public discontent and cited recent arrests of individuals in Kano who have expressed their opinions on radio. “They have been arrested and sent to jail, sometimes tried at night,” he said.

Galadima cautioned that the government’s failure to engage with the frustrations of the populace could lead to significant unrest. “Things often start small but can quickly escalate,” he remarked, urging the authorities not to underestimate the public’s capacity to react.

He drew comparisons to the 2015 general election, noting that Nigerians previously voted out an elected government due to rising insecurity, particularly in the North-East. “In 2015, when the situation was less severe, Nigerians successfully removed a government,” he said, in reference to the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Galadima further criticized the Federal Government for weakening the agricultural sector through unfavorable import policies and rising production costs, particularly the price of fertilizer, which he claimed has skyrocketed to between 60,000 and 70,000 naira per bag.

“This government has deliberately undermined agriculture, disenfranchising the 75 percent of the population that relies on it,” he stated. He dismissed assertions from the administration that economic conditions were improving, saying that farming activities in rural areas were noticeably declining.

During a visit to Maiduguri, Galadima observed a lack of agricultural activity, claiming, “There is nobody doing any dry farming.” He urged the government to conduct research on the issue, warning that without intervention, local rice mills established during former President Buhari’s administration could face closure.

Galadima’s remarks underscore the mounting concerns within the country regarding economic policies and their impact on the agricultural sector as the 2027 election approaches.
