2027: Makinde agreed to join ADC to become Atiku’s running mate – Fayose claims

Fayose Discusses Alliance Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has announced the outcome of a meeting held in Minna, Niger State, which included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

Fayose stated that Makinde has expressed his willingness to form an alliance with a coalition of opposition leaders as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections. According to reports, the meeting took place behind closed doors on Tuesday and included a discussion with former military president General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

Atiku addressed the media following the meeting, asserting that there were no discussions regarding his presidential ambitions. However, Fayose later clarified through a statement on his official X account that the focus of the conversation was indeed on the upcoming presidential election.

Fayose noted that the meeting’s location was intentionally selected to preserve confidentiality. He claimed that during the discussions, Governor Makinde agreed to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the condition that he would be nominated for the party’s vice-presidential ticket alongside Atiku. Additionally, Fayose reported that Makinde pledged an initial contribution of N10 billion, to be distributed in two installments, to support the ADC’s launch, with further funds expected as the campaign progresses.
