Motorcycle Rider Killed in Dispute Over Sale in Edo State
A 28-year-old motorcycle rider, Ayoade Ohiremen, was killed during a negotiation for a new motorcycle in the Ahor community of Edo State.
The incident occurred on the Oluku Road bypass in the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Benin City. According to reports, Ohiremen was among a group of commercial motorcyclists who congregated to discuss the purchase of a new motorcycle.
Sources indicate that tensions escalated when fellow riders accused him of foul play, claiming he lacked authorization to participate in the transaction. An argument erupted, leading to violence during which Ohiremen was allegedly beaten and died at the scene.
Witnesses further alleged that the suspected assailants then dragged his body into a nearby farm before fleeing the area.
Richard Balogun, the Deputy Corps Commander of Operations for the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), confirmed the incident and reported that one suspect, identified as Bello Bawa, has been apprehended. Upon learning of the altercation, ESSC operatives acted swiftly to pursue those involved, resulting in Bawa’s arrest.
He has since been transferred to the homicide department of the Edo State Police Command for further investigation, after being initially handed over to the Ahor Police Division.
