30 natives killed by terrorists, 707 displaced in Kwara attacks – Plateau council boss

Deputy Chairman Confirms Death Toll in Woro Community Attack
Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State — Gwong Song, the Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, confirmed Tuesday that more than 30 residents from the council were killed during a terrorist attack in Woro community, located in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident occurred on February 3, 2026.
Song’s remarks came during a press briefing, where he reported that the violence also displaced over 500 residents, primarily from the nearby Ganawuri community, who had traveled to Kwara for farming and commercial purposes.
Describing the aftermath as devastating, Song noted that the families of the victims were struggling with their loss. Initial reports indicated that the number of displaced individuals has increased to 707. Although some have managed to return home, others remain stranded in Kwara.
To address the plight of the returnees, the council chairman allocated 3 million Naira for transportation, allowing 200 individuals to return home. “Those who have come back are staying with relatives, as they are not in formal internally displaced person (IDP) camps,” Song explained.
He announced that the council plans to hold a special remembrance day on Thursday to honor the victims, expressing the sorrow felt by the community. “We recognize about 30 lives lost, and this is a painful experience for us,” he said.
Additionally, Song reported that four community members injured in the attack are currently receiving treatment in Kwara, while approximately 10 individuals remain unaccounted for and are believed to be held captive by the assailants.
