A 51-year-old America returnee, Sunday Abioye, was found dead in a hotel room in Sagamu, Ogun State. His body was discovered on Wednesday, November 20, in a hotel located in the GRA area of Sagamu.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta. According to Odutola, the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Oluwole, reported the discovery of the deceased customer to the police.

Detectives who visited the scene found Abioye’s body already placed in a car outside the hotel, as his family prepared to transfer it to the morgue.

Abioye’s brother, Jimoh Godday, residing in Imota, Lagos State, informed the police that his brother had returned to Nigeria from the USA on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Godday said he visited the hotel on Monday and knocked on the door of room 109 where his brother was staying. After receiving no response, he requested a spare key from the manager and entered the room, where he discovered Abioye’s lifeless body.

A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, told the police that he had accompanied Abioye the previous day to purchase nine different types of medication following complaints of illness.

The body has been moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy. While no cause of death has been determined yet, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
