75 arrested as Lagos intensifies coastal road clean-up

75 Arrested in Lagos Enforcement Operation
LAGOS — Authorities arrested 75 individuals late Wednesday during an enforcement operation along the Coastal Road corridor aimed at addressing criminal activity and restoring order in known security hotspots.
The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out the operation, which began around 10 p.m., as part of its intensified initiative to combat crime in the area. According to a statement from Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, 68 males and seven females were detained.
During the operation, substances believed to be illicit drugs were also seized. However, the raid was disrupted by violence, resulting in injuries to one officer, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, who was attacked and sustained a serious head injury. He is currently receiving medical treatment.
In response to the incident, the taskforce issued a warning against violence directed at law enforcement personnel performing their duties. All suspects apprehended will face prosecution, according to agency officials.
The taskforce reiterated its dedication to maintaining ongoing clean-up and enforcement efforts across Lagos, emphasizing the goal of restoring public order, protecting shared spaces, and ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens. Additional enforcement actions are expected as part of broader strategies to mitigate criminal activities and address environmental violations throughout the state.
