Ghana defeated South Korea in a five-goal thriller game full of surprises in front of a boisterous crowd at the Education City Stadium in Qatar.

The African country had a 10-minute dominance in the first half during which they had a 2-0 lead, but a South Korean comeback in the second half subdued the raucous jubilation of Ghana supporters at halftime.

After 61 minutes, Cho Gue-sung, the top scorer in his domestic league, equalised the score with two incredible headers in three minutes.

Mohammed Kudus of Ajax, who had earlier headed on a cross from Jordan Ayew to shatter South Korea’s hearts, scored the third goal for Ghana to give a late twist.

South Korea had more opportunities as they sought a second equaliser, but Ghana managed to hold on despite the addition of 10 minutes of extra time.

The Asian side will play Portugal next, so this loss seems meaningful, whereas Ghana, who was unlucky to lose to Portugal, will play Uruguay in high spirits in their last match.
