Dogs put on notice over ‘unacceptable’ errors

Canterbury Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo has put the heat on his team after what he deemed to be some “unacceptable” mistakes in the loss to the Sea Eagles.

Ciraldo’s side was well beaten by Manly, with Sea Eagles skipper Daly Cherry-Evans notching the first hat-trick of tries of his career in a comprehensive 31-6 win.

The new Bulldogs coach was left baffled by some of the decisions made by his players on fifth tackle situations and said the team was taught “a lot of lessons”.

“We lacked cohesion at times around that area and around a lot of other areas as well,” he said.

“We’re a new team, we had three debutants today and five guys making their club debut.

“We’re going to get better every week but today there were some things that we didn’t do well and are unacceptable for us moving forward.

“But I still think we showed a hell of a lot of grit there at times to defend our tryline, stick together and stay in the contest physically. There were a lot of lessons learned.”

The Bulldogs started well enough, with Reed Mahoney scoring the team’s first try in the 20th minute after Tom Trbojevic had opened Manly’s account four minutes earlier.

However, Manly responded with four unanswered tries – three of them going to Cherry-Evans – to run away with a comfortable win.

Ciraldo’s Bulldogs face a stiff task next weekend when they travel to Melbourne to take on the Storm at AAMI Park on Saturday evening.
