Security operatives arrest four kidnappers, rescue 10 victims in Kogi

Men of the Nigerian Police Force in collaboration with a private security outfit engaged by the Kogi State Government, have arrested four suspected kidnappers and rescued 10 victims in the Ajaokuta area of the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, said the arrest and rescue operation marks a significant step in the ongoing fight against insecurity in Kogi, underscoring the administration’s determination to protect its citizens and rid the state of criminal elements.

The commissioner also commended the swift and decisive action of the security teams.

“The kidnappers, who had been terrorising the Ajaokuta area for a while, committing heinous crimes such as kidnapping, rape, and armed robbery, were apprehended following credible intelligence,” Fanwo said.

According to Fanwo, the state government had engaged Base SAN Security Nigeria Limited, a registered private security firm, to work in synergy with conventional security agencies in tackling the rising wave of crime in the area.

“The operation resulted in the arrest of the four kidnappers and the rescue of 10 victims abducted by the gang across various parts of Kogi East.”

Fanwo revealed that the arrested suspects are cooperating with investigators, while arrangements are underway to reunite the rescued victims with their families.

“We can confirm that the efforts of the Ododo administration in engaging duly registered security outfits to support traditional security agencies are yielding positive results. This successful operation underscores the value of such partnerships,” he added.

Fanwo further praised the collaboration between the Kogi State Police Command and the security firm highlighting their professionalism in executing the operation.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the governor to making the state one of the safest in the country.

“Governor Ododo has vowed to leave no stone unturned in ensuring Kogi remains a safe haven for residents and travellers.

“The Ajaokuta breakthrough is a stern warning to criminal elements across the state that this administration is resolute in its mission to eradicate crime,” Fanwo said.

He also thanked the security agencies involved, pledging the government’s continued support in safeguarding lives and property across the state.

“The state government will spare no effort in empowering security agencies to sustain the momentum in combating criminal activities and maintaining peace,” he added.
