Super Eagles Prepare for Friendly Against Portugal
LISBON, Portugal — Alex Iwobi and Christian Akpan have joined the Super Eagles camp as preparations ramp up for Nigeria’s international friendly against Portugal.
Iwobi arrived in Lisbon on Thursday, having missed Nigeria’s recent match against Poland. Meanwhile, KRC Genk defender Akpan received his first call-up to the national team following the withdrawal of several other players.
Although relatively unknown in Nigerian football circles, Akpan hopes to make his debut during the encounter with Portugal.
Winger Samuel Chukwueze is expected to arrive in camp on Friday. He was unavailable for the recent Unity Cup in London and the friendly against Poland due to bereavement after the passing of his mother.
Additionally, Pisa forward Rafiu Durosinmi has been granted leave from the camp to address urgent personal matters.
Nineteen players traveled from Poland to Portugal on Thursday after participating in the friendly match in Warsaw.
