Troops discover corpse with machete wounds in Plateau community

Body Found in Plateau State, Investigation Underway
Troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have discovered the body of a man with machete wounds in the Torok community of the Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State.
Captain Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for the security operation, confirmed the discovery in a statement on Friday. The remains were found on the outskirts of the village after residents reported the incident to Sector 6 of OPEP on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Toma Chuwang, a local resident. Oteh indicated that preliminary findings suggest Chuwang was attacked by unidentified militia members while returning from an illegal mining site nearby.
The condition of the body showed signs of decomposition, meaning Chuwang may have died several days before his remains were found. “Upon arrival at the scene, troops confirmed the corpse of Mr. Toma Chuwang with machete cuts on the body. The condition of the corpse indicates that it had already started decomposing,” the statement noted.
Oteh also confirmed that the remains have been removed from the location. Security agencies have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and to identify those responsible for the attack. Efforts are underway to gather further information to assist in solving the case and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
