LIVE: Eels ‘dudded’ by costly calls against premiers

Teenage star Lachlan Galvin will enter the proverbial lion’s den on Saturday afternoon, making his NRL debut for the Tigers in enemy territory against the Raiders.

The 18-year-old will line up in the halves for last year’s wooden spooners in his first game in the top grade when the two sides meet at GIO Stadium.

And while the talent is clear for all to see, rugby league expert Phil Gould admitted it will be a ‘big ask’ for Galvin to take on the Green Machine.

“I think everyone has seen him coming for a number of years,” he said on Wide World Of Sports’ Six Tackles With Gus.

“He’s an NRL player of the future, but it’s a big ask to throw an 18-year-old kid in like this, particularly away from home … I used to like to debut players at home.

“They’ve got a huge opinion of him – as has everyone. He’s actually got it all and he has got quite good instincts. This will be a different level altogether.

“No doubt he will be targeted – it’s not a charity, the Raiders will be after him.”

Gould also admitted some concerns over Galvin partnering another inexperienced playmaker in Jayden Sullivan, who will be making his club debut.
