LIVE: Chiefs ‘furious’ at referee’s game-killing call

The Hurricanes have won in Hamilton!

That ends their four-year drought against the Chiefs away from home.

There’s one man who is absolutely seething right now. It’s captain Luke Jacobson who still cannot believe he was penalised for making no attempt to roll away.

That gifted Brett Cameron a chance to kick a penalty goal that he nailed to win by a meagre three points.

“Well, the players come together with the exception of Luke Jacobson who is absolutely furious with referee Paul Williams over that penalty decision,” said commentator Tony Johnson on Stan Sport’s coverage.

“But it’s not going to change it. It’s not going to change the outcome.

“Cooly taken by Brett Cameron. So much pressure on him to kick the goal to win the game, and they go back to the top of the table for the time being.

“Bonus point for the Chiefs but little consolation. They were out-played in the first half they came back in the second, but the Hurricanes found the winning touch.”

Moments earlier, Jeff Wilson said the Chiefs were unfortunate to be penalised.

“I couldn’t disagree (with referee Paul Williams) more,” said the All Blacks legend.

“He has dominated the tackle then he has been pinned into the player. That should not be a penalty in our game. Unplayable.”
