Dylan Edwards is in doubt for Wednesday’s State of Origin series opener after suffering a possible quad injury in training.

Edwards will be sent for scans on Saturday night.

Edwards completed the session, but reported tightness after doing extras.

The opposed training session was the Blues’ final session of the camp.

Coach Michael Maguire has spoken to Roosters coach Trent Robinson to have Tedesco put on standby.

A final decision is expected to be made on Sunday afternoon before the Roosters’ clash with the Cowboys, which Tedesco would miss if brought into the squad.

Maguire is expected to speak to media on Saturday afternoon.

Edwards was named in the squad ahead of Tedesco, who had held a mortgage on the Blues’ fullback position virtually since his debut in 2016. He hasn’t missed an Origin match since the third game of that series.

Speaking on Triple M, former Blue Wade Graham said it was possible to play through a quad strain, but any niggle would still hamper preparations.

“It’s devastating for Edwards … He’s worked so hard and he’s been one of the best players in the competition for the last three or four years,” he said.

“He gets his opportunity, and even if it’s a little niggle and he still manages to get to the game, it’s disruptive to his preparation.

“I have no doubt about him performance-wise. He’ll have no worries with that, he’s an out and out champion.

“But a little hiccup in your first Origin preparation is just not what you want.

“After such a high achievement, high emotion, high accomplishment, feeling on top of the world, he picks up a little niggle.

“It’s not ideal.”

Graham said even if Tedesco was to return to the side, Jake Trbojevic would likely remain captain.

He said Trjbojevic and Tedesco were close off the field, which would ease any tension that may arise.

“They’ve got a good relationship those two. I think if anyone would be out of sorts it would be Jakey,” he said.

“He’s such a nice guy (and) he’d be used to looking at Teddy (as) captain, but they’ll be able to sort that out between themselves.”
