Nigeria is in the height of its rainy season and many people are struggling with the unpleasant symptoms of catarrh and sinus infections. However, a simple, natural solution can be found or made right in your home – homemade vapor rub.

Nigeria’s current climate with heavy rainfall during this time of year can lead to an increase in sinus congestion, mucus buildup, and even coughs. While over-the-counter medications can provide temporary relief, some people prefer a more natural approach to managing these frustrating issues.

This is where a DIY vapor rub comes in handy. It is an easy-to-make balm that can help soothe stuffy noses. The key ingredients – coconut oil, beeswax, and a blend of essential oils – work together to provide decongestant properties.

Here is the DIY vapor rub recipe formatted as a step-by-step guide:

Ingredients:
1/4 cup coconut oil
3 tablespoons beeswax pastilles
4 tablespoons olive oil
Eucalyptus essential oil
Lavender essential oil
Peppermint essential oil
Tea tree essential oil

Instructions:

1. Set a heatproof bowl over a pot of boiling water, and combine the coconut oil, beeswax, and olive oil. Then, heat it while stirring occasionally until the ingredients are fully melted and have mixed.

2. Remove the melted mixture from the heat.

3. Add in five drops of eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, and tea tree essential oils. Stir well to combine.

4. Carefully pour the vapor rub mixture into a clean, dry glass container with a tight lid.

5. Allow the vapor rub to cool completely until it solidifies. Ideally, this should take about 1-2 hours.

6. Once it is solid, the vapor rub is ready to use. Apply it by scooping out a small amount with your fingertips and gently massage it into the chest, neck, and behind the ears as needed.

Additionally, the essential oils used in this homemade vapor rub contain many benefits. For example, peppermint oil is a cooling oil that contains menthol which decongests mucus. Also, lavender oil has a calming and soothing aroma which relieves tension and balances the stronger scent of Eucalyptus oil.
