Robinson lashes 'madness' rumour about rival star

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson has denied the club has any interest in chasing Mitchell Moses, describing the speculation as “frustrating” and “madness”.

Moses has been linked with a move away from the Eels with speculation ramping up after his well publicised dressing room outburst.

The Eels halfback is contracted until the end of 2026 on a $1.2 million-a-season deal and has player options to extend that a further two years.

With Moses’ future up in the air after coach Brad Arthur’s sacking, the Roosters have been floated as a possible landing spot.

However, Robinson moved to quash those reports.

“There’s nothing there,” he told media on Thursday.

“An outstanding player, we’ve admired him, tried to sign him a few years ago but there hasn’t been one conversation about that.

“It’s the madness of our reporting and trying to create some news. There hasn’t been one discussion about that.”

The Roosters currently have Sam Walker and Luke Keary in the halves but won’t have the latter next season.

Sandon Smith is the likely replacement at five-eighth while Chad Townsend will provide depth for the club.

Walker’s contract has been a talking point with the halfback free to negotiate with rival clubs from November 1.

Robinson described the talk around Moses as “frustrating” amid attempts to keep Walker at the club.

“It creates a noise, we’re in the middle of trying to re-sign Sam and someone brings up something about someone we’ve never really spoken about and it creates noise for three or four days and we’re still talking about it now,” he said.

“But that’s our world isn’t it?”
