Terrorists must leave Benue – Alia declares

Governor Alia Reaffirms Commitment to Security and Agriculture in Benue State

Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety of residents and securing agricultural land throughout the state. During an unannounced inspection at Taraku Mills in the Gwer East Local Government Area, Alia emphasized his government’s resolve to eradicate terrorist activity from the region.

“The protection of our people and land is my top priority,” Alia stated. “Farmers must be able to cultivate their lands without fear for us to fully realize Benue’s agricultural potential.”

The governor highlighted that restoring security is crucial to his economic policy. He vowed to uphold relevant laws and escalate efforts against criminal groups responsible for violence in local communities.

“Terrorists must leave the state,” he declared firmly. “We will continue our efforts until they vacate our land. No one will take Benue land.”

Alia noted that while local farmers possess the capability to supply Taraku Mills with the necessary raw materials, ongoing insecurity in Benue and bordering states, including Nasarawa, Cross River, Kogi, and Taraba, presents a significant barrier to agricultural productivity. He cautioned that revitalizing the multi-billion naira company would be ineffective if farmers remain unable to access their farms.

During the inspection, engineers demonstrated the progress of the rehabilitation project by activating several refurbished machines. The governor expressed contentment with the project’s development, indicating that production would begin shortly.

Alia encouraged farmers, particularly those growing soybeans, maize, and groundnuts, to increase their output in anticipation of the mill’s reopening. He asserted that the revitalization of Taraku Mills will enhance the agricultural value chain, generate employment, stimulate economic activity, and improve the state’s internally generated revenue.

Furthermore, Alia stated that Benue’s economy has begun to show signs of growth, attributed to reforms implemented by both the Federal Government and his administration over the last three years.
