Presidential Election: Tinubu got 517,341 Kano votes in 2023; can he win it in 2027?

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 presidential election, significant attention is focused on Kano State, a crucial political hub in northern Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, is particularly keen on securing support in this key market center.
Recent developments underscore the competitive landscape. Kano’s Governor has expressed unwavering support for Tinubu, assuring him of considerable backing from the northern electorate. Meanwhile, the APC Chairman has optimistically projected that Tinubu could garner up to 70% of the northern vote.
In contrast, rivals are poised to challenge Tinubu’s ambitions in Kano. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that he could win the state without the influence of former candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). In the 2023 election, Kwankwaso captured Kano with a total of 997,279 votes, defeating Tinubu, who received 517,341 votes. Atiku trailed with 131,716 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party secured 28,513 votes.
As the 2027 election draws near, the dynamics among candidates have shifted. Kwankwaso will now serve as the vice-presidential candidate for Obi, raising questions regarding his previous level of support among Kano voters. Will this change impact the electoral landscape, or will voters continue to rally behind him?
Additionally, there is speculation about whether support will consolidate around Atiku, a fellow northerner, or if Kano voters will favor Tinubu of the APC, aiming to surpass his previous performance.
With just 86 days remaining until the election, all eyes will remain on Kano as voters prepare to make their choice.
