Santa Clara, ranked No. 10 in the nation, defeated No. 7 Arkansas 2-0 Wednesday night in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA women’s soccer tournament.

Izzy D’Aquila and Skylar Smith scored the game’s only goals for Santa Clara, as the Broncos outshot the Razorbacks 11-6.

The first score came on D’Aquila’s goal, assisted by Julie Doyle, at the 28′ mark in the first half. Smith added her goal to make it 2-0 in the 73rd minute in the second half, also on an assist from Doyle.

The Razorbacks simply could not muster enough offense to come back from the deficit.

Santa Clara, an 11-seed in the NCAA tournament, thus advances to the Elite Eight while Arkansas, a 6-seed, completes its season with a record of 11-4.
