Langford powers 7-seed Florida past 11-seed Alabama

The 7-seed Gators ended the 11-seed Tide’s impressive run with an 11-6 win to advance to the semifinals of the SEC tournament.

Wyatt Langford set the tone for a slugfest with a leadoff homer, and he was followed by three more Gator runs in the top of the first. With one run already scored in the bottom of the first by Alabama, Zane Denton blasted a three-run bomb to even the score at 4-4 entering the second inning. 

Langford responded in the ensuing inning with his second home run of the game, making him second all-time in single-season homers by a Gator with 23. In the top of the third, Langford drove in his third run of the game with a a groundout to first. 

The Crimson Tide didn’t back down as Drew Williamson nailed a two-run homer to tie it up at six apiece heading into the fourth. 

Both teams slowed down offensively in the middle innings, but Florida separated itself in the top of the ninth by driving in four runs. Mac Guscette closed the inning out with a three-run bomb that closed he game out. 

Florida will face 2-seed Texas A&M in the the third game of the day.
