Dr. Ify Aniebo, a well-respected academic and wife of Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has taken to social media to debunk a long-standing belief about breakfast.
In a tweet, she revealed that the popular saying, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” was actually a marketing slogan created by Kellogg’s in 1917 to promote cereal consumption and is not backed by scientific research.
Dr. Aniebo, a distinguished scholar with an extensive educational background, holds several degrees, including a Bachelor’s of Science in Genetics and Microbiology from Queen Mary University, a Master’s of Science in Applied Biomolecular Technology from the University of Nottingham, and advanced degrees from Oxford University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
She emphasized that there is no data or research to prove that breakfast holds any special importance over other meals, thereby challenging one of the most well-known dietary beliefs.
