Admitting to illegal tapping of phone on live TV callous – Omokri slams El-Rufai

Former Aide Criticizes El-Rufai for Phone Tapping Comments

Reno Omokri, a former aide to the presidency, has criticized Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, for remarks he made during an interview on Arise TV. Omokri described El-Rufai’s admissions regarding phone tapping as “callous.”

In a post on X on Friday, Omokri asserted that tapping a phone without a court order constitutes a criminal act. He expressed concern over the legal and ethical implications of such admissions made publicly.

“Tapping a phone call without a court order is a crime,” Omokri stated. “Admitting to it on live television is callous. Confessing that you were an accessory to unnamed individuals in the illegal tapping of a call is an open-and-shut case of your own culpability.” He also questioned the extent of El-Rufai’s actions by asking who else might have been targeted.

“Who else has Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and his agents been tapping?” he queried, raising further allegations about possible collaboration with criminal elements. “Has he and his associates been helping terrorists and coup plotters to intercept phone calls of potential victims?”

In another post, Omokri urged El-Rufai to continue speaking, adding that his comments might reveal more about his character.

“Nasir El-Rufai boasted that he would unseat President Tinubu in 2027. Has he also tapped the INEC Chairman’s phone number?” he inquired. He emphasized that if it is feasible to intercept communications involving national security, it raises serious concerns about the integrity of electoral technologies, such as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) IREV portal and BVAS devices.

“Nasir El-Rufai, keep talking. Keep digging. Keep exposing yourself,” he concluded.
