Again, fire guts another Kano market

Fire Destroys 50 Shops at Kano State Market
KANO, Nigeria — An early morning fire has destroyed at least 50 shops at the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in the Dakata area of Kano State. The blaze reportedly began around 5:40 a.m. on Friday.
This incident follows a significant fire earlier this month that impacted more than 1,000 traders at the nearby Singer Market.
Dauda Haruna Chula, chairman of the market’s fire committee, stated that the affected shops primarily housed small-scale businesses involved in oil production and the recycling of plastics and nylon. “From the preliminary assessment, about 50 shops are already down, and the fire is still ongoing. We are still expecting personnel from the Kano State Fire Service,” he said.
Chula confirmed that efforts were made to contact the fire service and other relevant agencies, which acknowledged the situation. The extent of the damage and any potential casualties have yet to be determined.
