Alleged forgery on UK property: Court grants Prof Ozekhome, one other N10m bail each

High Court Grants Bail to Senior Advocate and Co-Defendant in Fraud Case
A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has granted bail to Senior Advocate of Nigeria Prof. Mike Ozekhome and his co-defendant, Ponfa Useni, following their arraignment on Friday. Each was granted bail set at 10 million naira.
The two defendants face a 12-count criminal charge filed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation. They are accused of forgery, including the creation of false documents such as an international passport and an irrevocable power of attorney, allegedly related to the unlawful acquisition of a London property previously owned by the late General Jeremiah Useni.
During the proceedings, prosecuting attorney Rotimi Oyedepo did not oppose the bail application put forth by the defendants’ legal team, which included Tayo Oyetibo and F. R. Onoja.
In her ruling, Justice Chizoba Oji stipulated that both defendants must provide a surety with property in the FCT and deposit their international passports with the court. She also indicated that while the defendants may return home if unable to meet the bail conditions immediately, they must report back to the court on Monday. Failure to comply would result in their incarceration.
Further details will follow.
