Amotekun Corps Arrests 95 Suspects in Ondo State Across Security Operations

Akure, Ondo State – The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended 95 suspects linked to a variety of criminal activities across all 18 local government areas of the state.

The arrests resulted from a coordinated operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Army.

In a press conference on Sunday, Amotekun Commander Akogun Adeleye reported that the detainees face charges including kidnapping, burglary, theft, and illegal mining. Among those arrested were individuals aged between 20 and 50, with notable names including Victor (31), Jonathan (34), and Dada (42).

Adeleye noted that sustained intelligence-driven operations in recent weeks had yielded significant outcomes. He highlighted that 61 of the suspects were discovered inside a trailer truck and are currently being profiled to assess their involvement in criminal activities.

“Additionally, we have 19 suspects arrested for public disturbances, three linked to farmer-herder conflicts and anti-grazing violations, and 12 associated with kidnapping incidents,” Adeleye stated.

The Commander indicated that various individuals suspected of kidnapping were taken into custody in troubled regions of Akure North Local Government Area, including Ilu-Abo, Idogun-Ugbe, Alagbaka, Ayede, Iloro Camp, and Ogbese. He expressed confidence that these arrests would contribute to restoring peace in the affected communities.

Regarding anti-grazing offences, Adeleye confirmed the apprehension of Umai Jibril and Hassan, bringing the total number of individuals facing such charges to 34, with ongoing investigations involving additional suspects.

Adeleye credited the success of the operations to effective collaboration among various security agencies and emphasized the importance of sustaining this synergy.

He warned potential criminals to cease their unlawful activities, asserting that Ondo State will not become a sanctuary for criminal behavior. “We will continue to work closely with sister agencies to protect lives and property. Anyone found engaging in crime will face decisive action,” he added.
