Amotekun arrests two suspected highway robbers along Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway

Osun Amotekun Corps Arrests Two Suspected Highway Robbers

The Osun Amotekun Corps apprehended two men, Chima Eze, 29, and Sunday Okorie, 41, on Saturday night during a routine patrol along the Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway. The suspects were allegedly attempting to rob a commercial vehicle transporting goods from Ibadan at approximately 11:35 p.m.

According to Amotekun spokesperson Yusuf Idowu Abass, both suspects are natives of Ebonyi State but currently reside in Mowe, Ogun State. They were intercepted after a driver alerted authorities about an attempted ambush.

Preliminary reports suggest that Eze and Okorie, along with accomplices, had established a trap on the highway to target motorists. The driver managed to evade the ambush and notified the Amotekun operatives, who were patrolling nearby.

Responding quickly, Amotekun personnel arrived at the scene only to find that members of the gang had abandoned the vehicle they had robbed and fled into nearby bushes. Security operatives pursued the suspects, successfully apprehending Eze and Okorie, while two other gang members escaped.

During initial questioning, the arrested suspects reportedly confessed to being part of a four-man robbery gang that had begun its operations in early 2025. They indicated that their criminal activities focused on motorist and commercial vehicle theft along major highways in the region.

The suspects further revealed that they had resorted to highway robbery after their previous street hawking business in Lagos failed to produce sufficient income. They disclosed that a still-at-large accomplice had introduced them to the criminal activities and coordinated some of their operations. Stolen items, they admitted, were transported to Lagos for resale.

Subsequent to their arrest, Amotekun operatives accompanied the suspects to a hideout located in an uncompleted building within a forest along the expressway, where they recovered various stolen items, including cartons of solar lights, assorted baby clothes, measuring tapes, a flashlight, and two long wooden objects.

The Osun Amotekun Corps announced that Eze and Okorie will be handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation and legal proceedings.
