Armed bandits kill forest guard in Kwara community

Armed Attack on Koro Community Results in Fatality

KORO, Kwara State — An armed attack in the Koro community of Ekiti Local Government Area on Sunday claimed the life of a forest guard identified as Samuel. The assault occurred around 1 p.m. and was met with resistance from local forest guards, hunters, and vigilantes, according to a credible security source who requested anonymity.

Prior to the incident, forest guards had received intelligence suggesting a potential assault by armed bandits. However, the guards were reportedly ambushed during the attack. Samuel sustained fatal injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene. His remains were subsequently transported to Egbetokun Hospital in Kogi State, as the community shares a boundary with the state.

Additionally, witnesses reported that the attackers set fire to more than five motorcycles during the confrontation.

In response to the attack, the Koro community has heightened its security alert. Local hunters, vigilantes, and forest guards are on standby to prevent any subsequent assaults. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security authorities.

Communities neighboring Koro, including Egbe, Ogbe, and Oke-Ere in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, have also been urged to exercise caution. Efforts to contact local security agencies for further comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
