Two Sentenced to Death, Seven Receive Life Imprisonment in Bauchi Criminal Cases

Bauchi, Nigeria – A High Court in Bauchi State has sentenced two armed robbers to death by hanging for multiple offenses, including rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, conspiracy, and culpable homicide. The sentences were handed down on Friday as part of a series of judgments involving 51 criminal cases against 64 defendants adjudicated in the last quarter of 2025.

The court found evidence sufficient to convict Muhammad Maina and Yakubu Adamu, the two men sentenced to death, for their roles in violent robbery incidents throughout the state. The convictions were secured under provisions of the Penal Code, the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, and the Bauchi State Penal Code, all of which aim to address serious crimes effectively.

In addition to the death sentences, seven individuals received life imprisonment without the option of fine. Those sentenced include Shehu Isa, Adamu Adamu (also known as Nalele), Mohammed Bello, Kabiru Ahmed, Muhammad Jibrin (aka Al-Amin), Usman Bello (Maigamo), and Manu Umaru (aka Alhaji Manu). They were convicted for serious offenses, including rape, conspiracy, armed robbery, culpable homicide, and kidnapping.

A statement from Saleh Umar, the information officer of the Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission, indicated that another 11 individuals were convicted for fraud-related offenses, receiving three-month prison sentences without the option of fine. This group includes Abubakar Shehu, Yusuf Aliyu Alhassan, Miracle Chidi, Dominic Lazarus, James Myaulompwa, Lawus Zakka, Sadiq Dosumo, Jude Titus, Joseph Olamide Adesunmila, Koche Samuel, and Falour Odinaka.

Various other convicts were sentenced to terms ranging from three months to ten years, with some receiving fines between 10,000 and 500,000 naira, depending on the severity of their crimes.

The court’s judgments underscored the persistent challenges posed by kidnapping and violent crime in Bauchi State. The rulings were intended to serve as a deterrent against such criminal behaviors. The Bauchi State Judiciary reiterated its commitment to uphold justice and collaborate with state government efforts to enhance public safety.
