Assassination Attempt: Nobody can stop me from visiting any part of Nigeria — Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi affirmed his constitutional right to travel freely throughout Nigeria, emphasizing that neither individuals nor groups can restrict his movements. His comments were made in response to recent tensions and warnings regarding his visit to certain regions, particularly following an incident in Benin City.
Speaking during a visit to Peter University in Achina, Anambra State, Obi stated, “I am a Nigerian and I am free to go to any part of this country. It is a constitutional right that nobody can take away from me.” He mentioned his recent trip to Rivers State, where he had proceeded despite receiving advisories against travel to that area.
Obi also confirmed his plans to run in the 2027 presidential election, this time as a candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He emphasized his commitment to Nigeria’s democratic process, while clarifying, “I’m not desperate to be the President of Nigeria, but I’m determined to see Nigeria work.”
He advocated for significant reforms aimed at creating opportunities for all citizens and strengthening governmental institutions, stating, “We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
The former governor discussed his transition from the Labour Party to the ADC, attributing this decision to internal leadership conflicts within the Labour Party and concerns over the management of court rulings affecting the party. He indicated that these challenges were influential in his choice to change political platforms in anticipation of future elections.
