Atiku reacts as thugs burn down ADC office, block Amaechi’s motorcade in Rivers

Atiku Abubakar Condemns Attack on African Democratic Congress in Rivers State

Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent actions of suspected political thugs against the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State.

On Friday, unidentified gunmen invaded the ADC office located in Ubima Ward, Ikwerre Local Government Area, and set the facility ablaze. The assault occurred as former Governor Rotimi Amaechi was en route to the ADC’s revalidation exercise in the area. His convoy was reportedly intercepted by armed individuals, preventing him from reaching the venue.

In a statement released Friday evening, Abubakar denounced the attacks on opposition leaders and called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

“The attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Ubima is condemned,” he stated. “It is a dangerous development that efforts to weaken the opposition have now shifted to attacking its members and destroying its properties. These acts represent not only an assault on the ADC but on our democracy as a whole.”

Abubakar emphasized the need for the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to ensure the safety of opposition leaders and their property, stating it is a fundamental expectation of the Nigerian public. He urged for an independent investigation into the ADC office arson and expressed concern that inaction could lead to further violence against opposition members.

The former vice president also noted that he is awaiting the results of an ongoing investigation into a separate recent attack on Mr. Peter Obi and other ADC leaders in Benin, Edo State.
