Auburn came up just short of Oregon State, 4-3, in the second game of the Corvallis Super Regional Series.

The bats came alive in the fourth inning as the Beavers scored first with solo home runs from both Jacob Melton and Travis Bazzana, 2-0.

Auburn immediately responded with a lead-off double by Cole Foster. A fielder’s choice followed by a wild pitch would score Foster, 2-1. Back-to-back doubles by Brooks Carlson and Brody Moore would bring in another run to tie it, 2-2.

Oregon State pulled ahead once again in the fifth as Matthew Gretler started off the inning with a single to right center. Gretler advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third due to a bunt single by Justin Boyd. A throwing error within the same play would score Gretler, 3-2.

The Beavers added to their lead in the sixth after Bazzana walked and then scored off a single to center by Jake Dukart, 4-2.

The Tigers refused to back down in the sixth. Bobby Pierce walked and advanced to third after a single by Carlson. A wild pitch would send Pierce home to close the gap, 4-3, before the Beavers ended the inning.

The one-run lead would be enough to carry the Beavers to a win, forcing game three of the series.
