Aussie champ’s fury at ‘shameful’ post-fight move

The fight might be over but the war of words certainly isn’t.

Following Ebanie Bridges’ eighth-round stoppage of Shannon O’Connell In Leeds on the weekend, it appears things have not simmered down after both women took their grudge match into the ring.

Bridges continued her verbal spar with her bitter rival after vision emerged of O’Connell flipping the bird at a rival supporter as the TKO win to Bridges was being announced.

It’s understood that O’Connell’s gesture was directed at Bridges’ friend and fellow Aussie boxer Skye Nicolson.

Nicolson was working as a commentator for the bout and recently joined Bridges in signing with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

She said O’Connell did not take the loss well and described her actions as “rude”.

“I feel like Shannon just takes things very personally,” she said on Instagram.

“I was cheering for my friend who supports my boxing career. And I support her and her boxing career. I was clapping for my friend while they were announcing the decision. And while she was standing in the middle of the ring she flipped the bird and said “f— you s—“.”

“Rude. A little bit personal, but that’s OK”.

In defence of Nicolson, Bridges took a swipe at O’Connell with a series of posts on her Instagram stories.

She said in one shared post: “I put her back in her place”.

She said in another post: “Can’t believe Shannon stuck her finger up at @skyebnic Center ring and said ‘f— you s—‘. Shame”.

She also captioned one photo which showed her landing a power punch: “I did it for all those girls in Aus who got shit decisions against this woman”.
