Bandits breach peace deal, launch fresh attack in Katsina community

Kankara Local Government Area Faces Renewed Violence Amid Failed Peace Deal

KANKARA, Katsina State — Bandits have reportedly killed one resident and kidnapped several others in a series of attacks in the Kankara Local Government Area, despite a peace agreement established earlier this year between local stakeholders and armed groups.

Security analyst Bakatsine shared updates on the incidents via social media on Friday.

The first attack occurred around midnight in the Gangaren Mangwarori area of Kankara town, where assailants fatally shot a resident identified as Malam Surajo and abducted an elderly woman, known as Gwamma.

A second incident took place at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday in the Marabar Gurbi community, also within Kankara. During this attack, multiple residents were taken captive, including Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, the community’s second Imam (Na’ibi), who was en route to the mosque for the Subhi (Fajr) prayer after Sahoor.

The recent violence has reignited concerns among residents, who had hoped for improved security following the peace agreement that preceded Ramadan. Community members are now calling for enhanced security measures to address the rising fear and prevent further incidents.
