Bandits release four of 14 abducted Sokoto villagers after N10m ransom

Fourteen Residents Kidnapped in Sokoto State; Four Released Amid Ongoing Captivity

Dinawa village, Wurno Local Government Area, Sokoto State — Fourteen residents were kidnapped by armed assailants in Dinawa village, with only four individuals having been released despite reported ransom payments.

Security analyst Bakatsine reported on X on Wednesday that the residents were abducted and held captive for six weeks. The bandits demanded a ransom of 10 million naira and two motorcycles. Although some payments were made, the return of only four hostages has left families devastated. A young boy was reportedly killed during the ordeal, and several others remain missing.

Local families are expressing their distress and calling for increased security measures. “If ransom was paid, why are hostages still being held and how are bandits continuing to operate with such impunity?” Bakatsine stated.

As of now, local authorities have not released an official statement regarding the situation.
