Bandits return to Sokoto community with deadly attack

Bandit Attacks Strike Sokoto Communities, Leaving Imam Dead
SOKOTO, Nigeria – Bandits attacked the Kiratawa community in the Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Friday, resulting in the death of the community’s Imam and injuring another individual along a nearby road.
According to eyewitness reports, the assailants first entered Kiratawa, where they killed the Imam. They then proceeded to set an ambush along the Takatsaba route at the Dangulbi Bridge, where they shot and killed another person before security forces arrived.
The prompt intervention by security operatives prompted the attackers to flee the scene. Local sources noted that this route had previously experienced a period of relative calm.
In a related incident, bandits targeted Fadamar Tarah in the same local government area on Saturday, abducting three individuals, including a pregnant woman. Reports indicate that this area had not seen any attacks since the killing of a bandit associate known as Kallamu, linked to the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.
Bakatsine, a security expert focusing on the North West, expressed concerns over the rising violence and questioned whether this marks an ongoing wave of attacks by Turji’s gang in Sokoto East. He noted that these incidents raise significant concerns about the security of residents in Sokoto and its surrounding areas.
