Bank customer battles robbers, shoots one as Police launch manhunt in Minna

Minna Bank Customer Escapes Armed Robbery in Narrow Escape

A bank customer narrowly avoided death on Friday after suspected armed robbers followed him from a bank and attacked him on Shiroro Road in Minna, Niger State. The assailants made off with millions of naira and the victim’s vehicle.

The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. on March 6, 2026. The victim, Mr. David Adebayo Emmanuel, reported to journalists that he had withdrawn N5 million from a bank shortly before the attack and later acquired an additional N3 million from another location, bringing his total cash holdings to N9 million.

Emmanuel indicated that he stopped at Iyafemi Restaurant to purchase food when the robbery occurred. “I had just entered my car when a well-dressed man approached me and threatened my life if I moved,” he recalled. “Initially, I thought he was joking, but then he cocked his gun, and I realized it was a robbery.”

Emmanuel managed to wrestle the firearm from the assailant and retreated into the restaurant, while two accomplices rushed to his vehicle. “I fired the gun despite having no prior experience,” he said. “I believe I shot one of them in the forehead. The others pulled him toward their vehicle but abandoned it when it wouldn’t start, escaping with my car.”

According to initial police reports, the robbers forcibly took the cash from Emmanuel and fled in his Toyota Corolla. Niger State Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the robbery and noted that the suspects abandoned the vehicle they used in the operation.

“Police operatives from the Tudun-Wada Division responded to the scene, recovering the firearm believed to have been used in the attack, as well as the abandoned vehicle,” Abiodun stated. The case has since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further inquiry.

Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend the suspects involved in the incident.
