Manchester City star, Kelvin De Brune, has come under fire from the Belgian press along with his Belgian teammate, Jan Vertonghen after their loss to Morocco

With just three points and yet to play Croatia, the 2018 runners-up, De Bruyne and his teammates are in danger of World Cup elimination as a result of the defeat to the African side.

The Red Devils’ playmaker who turned in yet another subpar effort in the loss, has come under fire from the domestic media for his comments.

Naija News recalls that the 31-year-old revealed why his team has “no chance” of winning the world cup, claiming that his team were ageing.

Following their side’s 2-nil loss to the Morroco, the Belgian press have directed their headlines to the star.

HLN wrote ‘He lost the ball 27 times!”, while the headline of De Standaard’s article,  “Defeat against Morocco exposes mutual distrust among Red Devils” may have been the harshest of the bunch.

“His attitude shows little collegiality and empathy. De Bruyne’s failure to do so [play well] is worrying. KDB is on the field every week at Manchester City and can present good statistics. But anyone who has followed his matches closely this season will find that he is not in his best period at City either.

“De Bruyne exudes little joy of living. His choice to discuss rather than cheer against Canada was a good illustration of this.” De Standaard added.

His teammate, and also a defender for the national team, also took a dig at De Bruyne, who is an attacker and the skipper for the team:

“We probably also attack badly because we are too old. That must be it now, surely? We have a lot of quality up front, but so does Morocco, and they came out better today. This is very frustrating,” he said.

Belgian head coach, Martinez has, however, refuted claims that De Bruyne’s remarks caused the players to lose focus following the Morocco encounter via The Guardian.
