Benue CP lauds Alia’s commitment in tackling insecurity

Benue Police Chief Praises Governor’s Commitment to Security
Makurdi, Benue State — Commissioner of Police Emenari Ifeanyi commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his dedication to combating armed herdsmen and bandits in the state. The commendation was made during a security briefing for journalists on Tuesday.
Ifeanyi reported that the Benue State Police are collaborating effectively with other security agencies to enhance the safety of rural communities against armed intruders. He highlighted the important role of local authorities, vigilantes, and youth groups in supporting security efforts throughout the state.
“The governor is actively engaged and ensures we have the resources necessary to carry out our duties,” Ifeanyi said.
The police chief reassured residents that security forces are actively monitoring the situation, emphasizing that operations are ongoing to dismantle criminal elements. He noted the prompt response of security agencies to threats, particularly those linked to banditry.
According to Ifeanyi, joint patrols involving the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Benue State Civil Protection Guard are routinely conducted across various communities. Additionally, he stated that the Nigeria Police Force had deployed its air support unit to enhance operational effectiveness.
Recent incidents include a reported attack on June 13 by armed bandits in the Apa Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of six villagers. Following the incident, security operatives, in collaboration with troops from Operation Whirl Stroke, initiated a coordinated effort—including drone surveillance—to pursue the attackers as they fled into nearby wooded areas. Further security reinforcements, including the Special Intervention Squad and the Counter Terrorism Unit, have been dispatched to the region to prevent subsequent attacks.
Ifeanyi advised against the politicization of security incidents and urged residents to provide valuable information to law enforcement agencies.
A representative from Operation Whirl Stroke announced that additional troops have been sent to the Kwande Local Government Area to secure vulnerable communities and monitor routes frequently exploited by criminals.
In a statement issued Monday, Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, affirmed that both security leaders are optimistic about the effectiveness of current joint operations in restoring peace and stability across Benue State.
