Benue: Police foil bandits’ attack in Ugba, kill one, arrest suspect

Police Thwart Armed Attack in Benue State, One Suspect Killed
Benue State police have successfully thwarted an armed assault by suspected bandits in the community of Ugba, resulting in the death of one assailant and the capture of another.
The incident occurred early on February 13, 2026, around 3:20 a.m., after security agencies received intelligence regarding bandits approaching the area. Promptly responding to the alert, a police patrol team was deployed to intercept the attackers.
Upon encountering the law enforcement officers, the assailants reportedly opened fire, igniting a gunfight. During the exchange, one suspect sustained fatal injuries. His body was subsequently collected and taken to a mortuary.
Authorities also recovered a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle marked with the inscription “Chen I Tiv,” which is believed to belong to the gang. While one suspect was apprehended at the site, others managed to flee into nearby vegetation.
In the wake of the incident, security personnel have increased surveillance and initiated search operations in surrounding areas to locate the escaped suspects and make further arrests.
