Benue Police Repel Attack, Rescue Abducted Woman

The Benue State Police Command confirmed that officers on patrol successfully thwarted an attack by suspected armed herdsmen in the Awanse community of Kwande Local Government Area on February 6, 2026. The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. when the assailants, armed and firing sporadically, abducted a woman along a roadway.

According to a statement from the Deputy Superintendent of Police Udeme Edet, the police responded swiftly to the reported attack. Their engagement with the assailants prompted a retreat, allowing them to rescue the victim unharmed.

Following the operation, the police secured the community and deployed additional tactical units to further bolster safety and deter potential future attacks.

In a related development, the police provided an update regarding a previous incident in the Abende community on February 3, 2026. During ongoing search operations, five more bodies were recovered, raising the total death toll in that area to ten.

Overall, authorities reported that the security situation in the affected areas remains stable, with ongoing patrols, surveillance, and monitoring efforts.

Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari reassured residents of the Benue State Police Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He emphasized that all necessary measures are in place to prevent further incidents and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
