Police Arrest Man in Fatal Domestic Altercation in Abia State
A man identified as Edward Okorie has been arrested by authorities in connection with the alleged beating death of his girlfriend, Sophy Chika, during a dispute at their shared residence in Ohafia, Abia State.
Chika, a nurse originally from Abam in the Arochukwu Local Government Area, was living with Okorie, who is a local resident of Ohafia. The circumstances that led to the fatal altercation remain unclear as officials have not disclosed any specific details.
The Abia State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who noted that the Divisional Police Officer in Ohafia provided an initial briefing on the case.
The investigation has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia for further examination. Chinaka stated that the findings of the investigation would clarify the events surrounding Chika’s death.
In a separate case, the SCID is also investigating an incident involving a woman from Umuahia who allegedly stabbed her husband, Chidiebere James, to death with scissors after discovering messages on his phone. Chinaka confirmed this incident to the media on Tuesday.
