BREAKING: Protesters occupy National Assembly over e-transmission of election results

Nigerian Youths Protest in Abuja Against Senate’s Rejection of E-Transmission of Election Results

ABUJA, Nigeria — A significant gathering of Nigerian youths convened in Abuja today for the “Occupy National Assembly” protest, expressing their opposition to the Senate’s recent decision to reject the electronic transmission of election results.

Heavy security measures are in place at the protest site, with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps deployed to maintain order.

The demonstration responds to the Senate’s stance on the electronic transmission of electoral outcomes, which has become a contentious issue among various stakeholders in the country. On Wednesday, the Senate voted against an amendment to Clause 60, sub-section 3 of the Electoral Amendment Bill, which aimed to mandate electronic transmission of results.

As of this report, protesters have begun their march from the Federal Secretariat towards the National Assembly gate, continuing their call for reform in election processes.
