Breaking: Tambuwal quits PDP over internal crisis, defects to ADC

Aminu Tambuwal Leaves PDP for ADC Amid Internal Strife
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released on X early Thursday, Tambuwal cited ongoing internal conflicts within the PDP, along with persistent leadership disputes and widening divisions, as key factors influencing his decision to switch parties. He confirmed that he submitted his resignation in writing to his ward chairman before registering with the ADC alongside his supporters.
“After deep reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, and I have communicated my resignation to my ward chairman in writing,” Tambuwal stated in his announcement.
While acknowledging the PDP’s significant role in his political career, which includes serving as both Speaker of the House and Governor of Sokoto State, he expressed concern that the party’s current state has made continued membership unfeasible.
“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership,” he remarked, emphasizing that these issues have undermined the party’s unity and purpose.
Tambuwal chose to align with the ADC, expressing confidence that it offers a more robust platform for Nigeria’s democratic advancement. He asserted his belief in the need for a political landscape built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a strong commitment to national development.
His switch comes on the heels of several high-profile defections to the ADC, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, positioning the party as a significant opposition force ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
