Brexit: government publishes Operation Yellowhammer documents – live news

The Yellowhammer doc confirms what retailers have been saying for the final three years – recent meals availability will lower, shopper selection will lower, and costs will rise. This isn’t good for the British public and this isn’t good for British retailers.

A no-deal Brexit in November represents the worst potential timing for the retail trade and the customers it serves.

Warehousing availability can be restricted as retailers put together for Black Friday and Christmas, many recent fruit and greens can be out of season within the UK, and imports can be hampered by disruption via the Channel Straits that might scale back stream by as much as 60% for as much as three months.

Whereas retailers are doing all they’ll to arrange for a no-deal Brexit, it’s not possible to utterly mitigate the unfavourable affect it might have – one thing the Authorities itself has acknowledged.

The actual fact stays that a damaging, no-deal Brexit is in no-one’s pursuits and it is important that a resolution is discovered, and quick, that ensures frictionless tariff-free commerce with the EU after our departure.”
