Bwala: Phrank Shaibu slams Tinubu’s aide over grammatical blunders on Al Jazeera

Communications Assistant Critiques Former Colleague’s Al Jazeera Appearance
A senior communications aide to Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, has criticized Daniel Bwala, a former colleague, following Bwala’s recent appearance on Al Jazeera. Shaibu claimed that Bwala struggled to articulate his thoughts in English during the interview, which has garnered significant attention on social media.
Shaibu highlighted several grammatical errors made by Bwala while speaking with journalist Mehdi Hasan, who is known for his rigorous fact-checking. One notable error occurred when Bwala referred to “a water,” a phrase deemed grammatically incorrect given that water is uncountable in English.
Shaibu remarked that many Nigerians might remember this interview as a pivotal moment for Bwala. The backlash against Bwala intensified after Hasan quoted his prior comments regarding President Bola Tinubu, with many viewers expressing their anger at Bwala’s defensive reactions during the broadcast.
In a post on social media platform X, Shaibu emphasized the importance of precise language, questioning how a lawyer could make such fundamental errors in English. He stated, “It is always risky when a man who cannot count water begins to count his arguments as facts,” pointing out that proper usage would be “this is water” or “a glass of water.”
Additionally, Shaibu noted that Bwala’s shifting political alliances have sparked further scrutiny among the public. “History, unfortunately for him, keeps receipts. And so do we,” he added.
In response, Bwala issued a statement clarifying that his earlier criticisms of Tinubu were purely political. He also claimed that Hasan had not fully briefed him on the questions that would be posed during the interview, hinting at the possibility of a follow-up segment.
