Cartier Racing Awards: City Of Troy named horse of the year

Derby winner City Of Troy has been named horse of the year at the Cartier Racing Awards in London.

The son of US Triple Crown victor Justify also added Sandown’s Coral-Eclipse and the Juddmonte International at York to his Epsom triumph.

City Of Troy was beaten in the 2,000 Guineas and Breeders’ Cup Classic but won seven of his nine career starts.

Aidan O’Brien said he is the best horse he has trained, and he beat stablemate Kyprios, top miler Charyn and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Bluestocking to win the main award.

Kyprios was named leading stayer at the 34th annual awards after claiming seven victories from seven races in 2024, having missed much of last year with a serious leg injury.

The award of merit was given to leading Irish trainer Jessica Harrington, who has recovered after being treated for breast cancer last year.
